Abrasion Resistant Steel Grades
Abrasion-resistant (AR) steel grades are specially designed to provide superior wear resistance in demanding industrial applications, including mining, construction, material handling, and quarrying. Common AR steel grades include AR400, AR450, AR500, and AR600, with the number indicating the Brinell hardness (HB) of the material. Higher hardness grades offer greater resistance to abrasion but may require careful handling during fabrication. These steels combine exceptional hardness with adequate toughness, allowing them to absorb impacts while minimizing wear, which extends equipment life and reduces maintenance costs. AR steel plates are often used for buckets, liners, chutes, hoppers, and crushers, where surfaces face heavy wear from rocks, ores, and other abrasive materials. With good weldability and formability for most grades, AR steels provide a balance between durability, performance, and manufacturability. Selecting the appropriate grade depends on the severity of wear, operational conditions, and required service life, making AR steels a reliable solution for long-term industrial applications.
